A Welcoming Home Entrance
A lush entrance filled with native plants and evergreens.
This project focused on creating a welcoming entrance for the homeowners at their newly purchased residence. While they loved the idea of boxwoods, I educated them about boxwood blight and the ongoing upkeep it requires. To ensure a sustainable and beautiful entrance, I introduced them to native inkberry (Ilex glabra) as a fantastic alternative for foundation plantings. The design features a natural stone path, complemented by lush white blooming azaleas (Rhododendron spp.) and disease-resistant native dogwood (Cornus florida) for a blanket of white spring blooms. The final design offers a neat and inviting entrance that not only enhances the home’s charm but also supports local biodiversity and minimizes maintenance.
